FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT ARE YOUR COVID-19 SAFETY PROTOCOLS?

DOES IT MATTER IF YOU HAVE NEVER HAD MUSIC EXPERIENCE BEFORE?

Not at all! We love teaching beginner students  and will customize a curriculum based on your level and what your goals are!

DO YOU TEACH ADULTS AS WELL AS CHILDREN?

Yes! We teach all ages of people who wish to learn. We believe you are never too old to start learning an instrument

DO I NEED A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT TO COME FOR LESSONS?

With the exception of vocal lessons an instrument is required. However, we have several rental options for those who might not be ready to make the commitment of purchasing an instrument just yet

HOW LONG IS A MUSIC LESSON?

Music lessons are typically 30 minutes but with more advanced students
they might choose to take a full hour lesson

WHEN CAN I EXPECT TO BE ABLE TO PLAY A SONG?

The length of time it takes to play a complete song depends on how much practice and effort you put into learning your instrument. Usually within the first couple weeks of lessons you should be well on your way to playing a song

DO YOU OFFER GROUP LESSONS?

Yes, for some instruments we offer group lessons. Ask us about our current group classes or they can be viewed on our student portal

CAN A PARENT SIT IN ON THE MUSIC LESSON?

Before Covid-19, parents were more than welcome to sit in on a lesson but we have had to adjust our policies regarding that. The parent can sit in on the first lesson if they choose, but after that only the student and the teacher are allowed in the studio. This is to adhere to regulations put out by public health. If you would like an update from your child's teacher, you can request to be Zoomed in, a video or a written report on how the lesson went.

DO YOU HAVE A RECITAL?

Yes! We have a few opportunities throughout the year where our students are encouraged to perform. We have a holiday concert in December and a Spring concert later on in the year. We also host open mics and provide
students
with busking opportunities and performance opportunities
throughout the community.

CAN WE START IN THE MIDDLE OF THE YEAR?

Yes! We accept registrations throughout the year and our studio is open during the summer for year-round music lessons

WHAT IF MY CHILD OR MYSELF ARE LEFT HANDED? DOES THIS IMPACT LEARNING AN INSTRUMENT?

Instruments like guitar and violin can be flipped to be left hand friendly but we strongly advise against it and usually teach left-handed people the same way we would a right handed person. If you learn as a left handed person, with a flipped instrument, you won't ever be able to play anyone else's instrument or sit in on a jam session. Often times, the left hand is doing the majority of the work anyway, so left-handers might even have an advantage

IM NOT A MUSICIAN, HOW CAN I HELP MY CHILD PRACTICE?

Practice is so important and a parent's role in helping their child practice is an absolute necessity. You can ask your child's teacher specific things they would like for them to work on and how you can help. You can also keep your child on track while they practice and establish a regular practice schedule so your child will get enough practice time in. Practicing is what will make the difference between a great musician and an amazing musician.

DO YOU OFFER ONLINE LESSONS ?

If covid has done anything positive, it has encouraged us to offer online options for music lessons. Nothing can replace an in-person lesson, but we understand with the uncertainty of the times we're living in and people's busy schedules an online option is absolutely necessary. Each teacher has a zoom link that you will be given upon registration, so if you need a zoom lesson every week or just once in a blue moon, we have you covered.
